It’s May Day! When I was a child, this was one of my most favorite days. We made little baskets. We filled them with dandelions and candies. Then we would go to a neighbors house and ding dong ditch while leaving the little basket behind.
I have no clue what would happen if you got caught, but I knew it was BAD. I usually chose my grandmother and papa’s house to ding dong ditch my May Day basket. They, of course, never knew who the ding dong ditcher was, but they always called me to come over and share the candies of that ding dong ditcher. It’s been many, many years since I have been able to convince my children this would be a fun idea to try with our neighbors. I have been yearning to re-experience this happy memory…...So…...I’m going to do it! I made a very simple basket using 2 book pages. After filling it with flowers, candies, and filler, I snuck over to my assistant Diane’s house. I creeped up her stairs, I hung the basket on her doornob. I rang the bell. I ran so so so fast to my car around the corner. I about broke my arm trying to unlock the door (who locks the door to their getaway car?) I made it! She’ll never know who her ding dong ditcher is!
